James Barkman is a photographer and thrill seeker who has been calling the road home for the last few years. Living out of his faithful but not necessarily trusty steed, a 1976 VW van, he can’t quite figure out if she burns more oil than she leaks, or leaks more oil than she burns. He can be found hunting for waves to surf, rocks to climb, mountains to summit, and trails to ride with his DR350 dual sport that he tows behind the van. In a world where the creative and adventure industry has never been more saturated, it’s important to James to first live a good story while letting his work capture and reflect the experiences that he has. Fueled by a strong work ethic and professional experience, James has worked and/or assisted on projects with brands like Sony, Goal Zero, Belstaff, Nemo Equipment, Huckberry, REI, Highland Park and Hipcamp.

Things James likes: The open road, a good campfire, his '76 VW van (aka Melody), avocados, cold weather, heights, board sports, film cameras, remote locations, cliff jumping, people.

Things James doesn't like: Taking yourself too seriously, breaking down, dirty dishes, windy days, hangnails, pollution.
